NAFTA was
signed by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Mexican President Carlos Salinas, and
U.S. President George H.W. Bush, came
into effect on January 1, 1994.The NAFTA was built on the success of the Canada-U.S.
Free Trade Agreement and provided a compliment to Canada’s efforts through the
WTO agreements by making deeper commitments in some key areas.
NATO Canada has been a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)since
its inception in 1949. Canada was not only a member but one of the principal
initiators (founding countries) of the alliance.
APEC Canada was a founding member of the APEC
forum in 1989 and has been active in helping APEC achieve its current status.
Canada has helped advance APEC's core work streams of regional economic
integration through its involvement across more than 30 APEC forums

Canada both to participate and to compete in the new international order.
G-20 The 2010
G-20 Toronto summit was the fourth meeting of the G-20 heads of government, in discussion of the global financial system and the world economy,
which took place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario,
Canada, during June 26–27, 2010.
G-8 Canada is the seventh-most socially
advanced nation in the world and leads G8 countries in terms of social and
environmental progress, a new global ranking shows.
